Understanding Anxiety Disorders
At Oakland’s anxiety therapy center, our compassionate team of mental health professionals is dedicated to facilitating individuals’ access to information regarding their condition and the process toward emotional balance and well-being. Anxiety disorders come in a variety of forms and affect individuals differently. The most common forms of anxiety disorders we treat at Oakland’s anxiety therapy center are:
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD):
GAD is characterized by persistent excessive worry about trivial issues. It comprises symptoms such as:
- Constant restlessness or feeling “on edge”
- Fatigue and irritability
- Difficulty concentrating
- Muscle tension and headaches
- Sleep disturbances
Panic Disorder:
It is characterized by sudden repeated panic attack, which makes an individual anxious or uneasy for no reason. Symptoms are:
- Heart palpitations
- Shortness of breath
- Dizziness
- Chest pain
- Feeling of losing control
Social Anxiety Disorder:
This is the type of anxiety characterized by fear of rejection or judgment by others in social situations. It may lead to social avoidance, social isolation, and low self-esteem.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD):
OCD involves recurrent, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors (compulsions). These patterns may become very disruptive and stressful.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD):
PTSD follows exposure or confrontation with a traumatic event. Its manifestations are flashbacks, nightmares, numbness, and hyperarousal.
Phobias:
Phobias are irrational fears of particular objects, situations, or activities, for example, flying, heights, or being in an enclosed place.
All these conditions are optimally treated by an individualized, focused program like the one we provide at our Oakland anxiety rehab center.
