Robles Ranch created a free childhood trauma test to help people understand pivotal moments that happened when they were a kid. The results can be used to help determine if they suffer from a traumatic mental health disorder. If so, the individual can arrange for help so they can heal their painful emotions and disarm the triggers that cause them emotional pain.

What are Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES)?

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are defined as an event or series of events that cause trauma to a child. They can occur when a person is an infant, a toddler, and all the way through their school years. Some can overcome them without developing a trauma-related mental illness, but many end up in need of professional treatment. An assessment from a mental health professional will determine if the individual experienced an ACE.

Common ACEs include:

  • Sexual or physical abuse
  • Emotional abuse
  • Being neglected
  • Extreme poverty
  • Homelessness
  • School shootings
  • Military or wartime actions
  • Severe bullying
  • A natural disaster, such as tornadoes, flooding, fires, or hurricanes
  • Witnessing other people being abused, such as parents, caretakers, siblings, and more

Signs and Symptoms of Childhood Trauma in Adults

People who endured childhood trauma often don’t understand the connection between their experiences and the signs and symptoms that occur as a result of what they went through.

Common signs of childhood trauma include the following:

  • Having PTSD, depression, an anxiety disorder, or other types of mental health disorders
  • Abusing drugs or alcohol to cover up difficult emotions and painful memories
  • Flashbacks
  • Nightmares
  • Low self-esteem
  • Self-harming
  • Unexplained medical symptoms, like headaches, body aches, nausea, and diarrhea
  • Easily started
  • Difficulty trusting others
  • Difficulty thinking, concentrating, and making decisions
  • Trouble forming and maintaining meaningful relationships

What Will My ACES Score Tell Me?

Your ACES score is not an official diagnosis of childhood trauma or any other mental health disorder. The test is meant to help you explore your symptoms, emotions, and behaviors to understand if you may have suffered from an adverse childhood experience. The results should be discussed with a mental health expert who can provide an official assessment and help determine if you can benefit from attending professional treatment for a trauma-based disorder.

How Many People Experience Childhood Trauma?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that one in six adults has experienced four or more ACEs. As well, at least half of the leading causes of death can be tied to experiencing childhood trauma. If ACES could be prevented, it could cause a drop of as much as 44% in cases of adults who have depression.

How Long Does This Free Childhood Trauma Test Take?

The free childhood trauma test only takes a few minutes to finish. Make sure to consider each question carefully and answer honestly.

How Is Childhood Trauma Linked To Health Outcomes?

When a child endures adverse childhood experiences, the damage done can impact their ability to do well in school, as well as contribute to developing poor physical health.

When left untreated, childhood trauma can cause a person to develop mental health disorders, such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), borderline personality disorder, and more. The individual also has an increased chance of abusing drugs or alcohol in an attempt to extinguish the memories and calm their feelings.
