Talk therapy, or psychotherapy, involves the individual meeting with a therapist who provides a safe space to open up about any subject. They work together to help resolve past issues such as processingtrauma, develop healthy coping skills, and explore their emotions and thoughts related to past and current events.

Somatic Therapy

Participating in somatic therapy involves focusing on a person’s body to understand how they physically hold onto painful emotions and traumatic experiences. Developing a mind-body connection during somatic therapy helps people release and cope with pent-up feelings that tamper with their ability to heal from mental health disorders.

Family Therapy

A therapist leads a group of family members to provide them a place to discuss their loved one’s mental health and how they can best support them. This allows each person to express themselves in a safe environment and work as a team to support their family member as they go through treatment to improve their mental health.

Group therapy provides a place for people with similar mental health disorders and goals for improving them to gather together. A therapist leads a small group in discussions that include their experiences, thoughts, and feelings, and how to develop healthy coping skills. Peer support is a valuable aspect of treatment.

Biosound Therapy

A trained biosound therapist uses a non-invasive treatment procedure to help people reduce their stress levels. Sounds and vibrations are introduced via binaural audio to help mimic the brain in a state of relaxation. Biosound helps people move from a state of stress to feeling peaceful, calm, and relaxed.

Understanding Mental Health Disorders

Mental health disorders can affect anyone—regardless of gender identity, class, race, or occupation. According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), “It is estimated that more than one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness (59.3 million in 2022; 23.1% of the U.S. adult population).”

At Robles Ranch, we treat several mental health disorders and conditions, including the following:

  • Depression: Depression is a catch-all term that describes several depressive disorders, such as major depression, seasonal depressive disorder (SAD), and postpartum depression. This mental health disorder is characterized by low levels of energy, overwhelming feelings of sadness, and a loss of interest in everyday activities.
  • Anxiety Disorders: Anxiety disorders are among the most commonly occurring mental health disorder worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Common symptoms include excessive worry or fear, irritability, abdominal distress, and muscle tension.
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): PTSD is a mental disorder that manifests following a traumatic event, such as a car crash, serving in the military, witnessing violence, or being the victim of assault. Symptoms include hyper-reactivity, restlessness, flashbacks, disturbed sleep, and feeling overwhelmed.
  • Complex Trauma: Complex trauma, or complex PTSD, occurs when a person experiences prolonged trauma or repeated exposure to traumatic events. For instance, growing up in an abusive household or living with an abusive spouse, living in poverty or a dangerous area, or providing care for a family member with a chronic mental or physical health condition.
  • Bipolar Disorder: Formerly called “manic-depression,” bipolar disorder is a type of mood disorder where the person has mood swings that shift between extreme lows to highs. There are different types of bipolar disorder, depending on how your moods shift from low to high. Treatment includes therapy and psychiatric medications called mood stabilizers.
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): OCD involves two primary symptoms: obsessions and compulsions. Obsessions are distressing and recurring thoughts that are outside of a person’s control. Compulsions, on the other hand, are irrational behaviors the person engages in as a means of ridding themselves of their obsessive thoughts.
  • Personality Disorders: Personality disorders are complex mental health disorders that develop over the course of a person’s lifetime. Oftentimes, these disorders significantly impair a person’s ability to form meaningful connections with others.
  • Schizophrenia: Schizophrenia is a mental health disorder primarily characterized by the presence of hallucinations and delusions—also called psychosis. These symptoms disrupt a person’s ability to think and behave in a functional manner. As a result, schizophrenia can significantly disrupt a person’s ability to live independently.
  • Self-Harm: Self-harm or self-injurious behaviors (SIBs) are maladaptive coping mechanisms that often occur with disorders like borderline personality disorder (BPD) and PTSD. These behaviors can range in severity from scratching oneself to causing significant bodily harm.
  • Suicidal Ideation: Suicidal ideation is a sign of significant mental distress. This often occurs as a symptom of major depression, however, anyone struggling with their mental health may experience suicidal thoughts. It is imperative to seek professional help immediately if you or a loved one experience suicidal ideation.
